Fondant and regular icing?

I am making a cake for my girlfriends birthday. It is a cake made from scratch, but store-bought pillsbury or duncan hines vanilla icing. I will be putting fondant flowers and other little decorations on it. I will not be covering the whole cake. Will the fondant stay? Do I wait for the icing to harden before I put the fondant on or do I ice the cake and decorate it before it hardens?

P.S. It will have a plastic Tigger and I am decorating flowers around teh edge. Also the party is on Sunday, when should I make everything

The pre-made icings you get in the little tubs, will not harden the way a buttercream will.

( They do not have merangue powder in them, which is what causes the thin crusty hardening of buttercream)

Unless the fondant decorations are small and very light I would suggest putting them on the day of the party, if you are transporting the cake, put them on after. They will stay for a while, but vibrations from a car will cause them to slide down the side.
Reply:You can bake the cake ahead of time and freeze it make sure it is completely cool before freezing and wrap in plastic wrap and then foil. Crumb coat it with your vanilla icing %26amp; return briefly to the freezer. Apply your final vanilla frosting. Do this the day you'll be serving the cake. I'd make the fondant flowers ahead of time so they'll dry out a little they won't taste all that great if they are soft or hard. Fondant is the playdough of the frosting world nice to look and it is edible but doesn't taste very good. One thing to help your decorations stick is to make sure your cakes are trimmed flat before assembling them. I usually do this before I freeze them. Duncan Hines type frosting won't harden . So not having the cake have that dome shape should help your decorations to stay put.

plastic icing is more soft to eat and easy to shaped..the texture like clay or bread doogh...
