I'm making a birthday cake....?

Is it okay to frost a cake the night before a party - will the frosting look okay and will the texture be okay? I am making a hello kitty shaped cake so I want to make it look textured by using a flower tip all over the cake which is going to take time so i don't want to wait until tomorrow to do it. If it is okay should I refrigerate it or leave it out. Sorry if this is a dumb question, i'm definitely not a professional at this!

The frosting will look fine if you frost it the night before. Just be sure to cover it with foil/plastic wrap/or something so that air doesn't get into the icing or cake to make it hard for the next day.

Reply:Go ahead and frost it the night before. Just stick some toothpicks in the cake and then cling film and into the fridge.
Reply:If u use a whipped cream based frosting instead of a sugar based frosting you won't have to worry about the frosting getting hard.

Make sure you don't have anything in the frig that has a strong odor- cheese, onions- because you don't want your cake to absorb that smell. The taste and texture will be fine. Cake only starts to dry out after 2-3 days in the frig.

Reply:Yes you can put icing/frosting on the cake the night before. The icing will be fine. Think about all those store and bakery bought cakes you've had in your lifetime. Naturally it's fresher to do right before you eat, but there is nothing wrong or taste affecting in doing it the night before. ALSO there is only one dumb question in the world. Reply:It is definitely ok to make the cake the day before. When you are done decorating it, put it in the fridge. The day of the party, take the cake out of the fridge about 1-2 hours before serving it. No such thing as a dumb question. If you have never done it, then how would you know.
