Im 14 and I live in a house where a landscaping guy usto live. So the outside has mulch and some flowers but it is starting to look rundown. There is alot of weeds and I just want it to look nice for the summer so I wanted to get a head-start now. Like I said Im only 14 so I dont have alot of income. Does anyone know what I could do? O this is also kinda a birthday suprise for my mommy.

How to spruce up my out doors on a low budget.?
hi and gee thats nice..neighbores..look around your area and see if any of your neighbores have outdoor plants that look like they could be overgrown and talk to the owner of the property and see if they are willing to split their plants ...this way you could replant them in your garden at no cost..trust me i have given many plants to some of my neighbores at no cost...it keeps the area beautiful..good luck and what a wonderful son you are...
Reply:You are such a sweetie!! Water the ground one evening and the next day pull the weeds. Sometimes it is hard to know which is a weed and which is a flower, but do your best! Then you can really see what's growing. Next you can go to almost any store - even a grocery store - and pick up packets of seeds that you and your mommy can plant together. Tie up the seed packets with a pretty ribbon and maybe make up some coupons for her. Coupons for things like trimming the grass, cutting bouquets of flowers that you have grown together, watering the flowers and things like that.
Reply:Like one other said, weeding don't cost anything. But if you know any of the neighbors well enough ask them if they have any plants like hostas, tall phlox, buttercups, irises or the like, that you can get thin-outs from to add to your yard. Or if any one is doing major revamp of their yard and wants to throw away perfectly good plants ask if you can have them instead. Also you might want to take a dollar store sharp steak knife to cut a new edge around the boarder. You will have to keep up on weeds at least once a week or a half hour everyday look through, which ever works for you.
Reply:re-mulching will cost lots of bucks. Buy your Mom a personal gift she can use.
Reply:Use large terracotta containers that are affordable and easy to keep for flowering plants. Pick plants that are easy to grow in your area, meaning climate appropriate.

have a small veggie garden. Most of them are cheap to start from seed and get green and lush very quickly.

Go for a nature hike, and collect seeds of plants in your area on your own. You can check a book from the library to learn about them and have fun!
Reply:Get some marigold seeds and start them in one row and put geraniums (you can get them in a small pot for 1.99 and plant behind the marigolds against the house .. water daily until the marigolds start sprouting. Don't over water just keep it damp everything should be really pretty in about a month!
Reply:Pulling the weeds doesn't cost anything. Just make sure the ground is damp, not drenched and they should pull easily or loosen them with a small shovel. If you have time to wait for seeds to grow that is the least expensive way. Marigolds are great flowers and easy to care for. You can even buy them in a flat of about 18 plants. Check at a flower nursery for the best prices.
